Setup Checklist ✅

Follow these steps to create your AI-enhanced second brain.

1. Download & Install Obsidian 📥

Go to obsidian.md and download the installer for your OS. Install and launch it.

2. Create New Vault 🗄️

Choose "Create new vault". Name it "My Second Brain" and select a location on your local drive (e.g., in your Documents folder).

3. Install 'Text Generator' Plugin 🔌

Settings > Community Plugins > Turn on Community Plugins > Browse. Search for "Text Generator", install, and enable it.

4. Install 'Smart Connections' Plugin 🧠

In Community Plugins, search for "Smart Connections". Install and enable it. This enables semantic search and chatting with your notes.

5. Configure API Keys 🔑

Settings > Text Generator (and Smart Connections) settings. Enter your OpenAI API Key (or other provider) to power the AI features.

6. Create Folder Structure 📂

Create a structure that encourages connections. E.g.: `00_Inbox`, `10_Projects`, `20_Areas`, `30_Resources`, `40_Archives` (PARA method).

7. Create First Note with Embeddings 📝

Create a note in `00_Inbox`. Write a thought. Use Smart Connections to see "Related Notes" (it might be empty now, but verifying the pane exists is key).

8. Visualize the Graph 🕸️

Click the "Graph View" icon (looks like molecules). This visualizes your brain's neural network. It grows as you add links `[[Like This]]`.

9. Test Semantic Search 🔎

Open the Smart Connections pane. Type a question about your note. Ensure the AI responds using the context of your created note.

10. Review & Reflect 🚀

You now have a local, AI-powered second brain. Review your setup and prepare to capture everything.
